Hi Vyonnah: OK, start Word, on the file menu choose Open Recent. If the document is still where you saved it, it will be in that list. If not, open Finder and type some words from the file name of your document into the Spotlight Search field at the top right of the Finder. If the document is anywhere on your computer you will see it in that list. Note: there are places on the computer that Spotlight doesn't look, but you would know if you put the file thee because you would have to issue a special command to open them. If you can't find the document using those methods, go into Time Machine and bring it back from your backup. If it's not in Time Machine, then 'no' you can't retrieve it.
When you create a new file (in any application) it exists only in the computer's volatile memory. Unless you save the file, it vanishes completely when the application that created it closes the file. Nothing gets written out to disk unless you save.
